Special Educational Needs Placement

Stewart's Hospital - Palmerstown

The Coach house

The Team

For this placement we were divided into groups consisting of two BAs and one PME. Our group was assigned to the Coach House in Stewart's in Palmerstown. We were placed here for two weeks. There were three other groups consisting of six other BAs and Three other PMEs situated in different sections of Stewart's Hospital.

This was a great experience which benefited all who partook in the placement. The service users and key workers were brilliant to work with and open to our suggestions and plans for this placement. The PME placed with us was excellent. She taught us how to create schemes of work. Each of us facilitated the group for sessions throughout the placement. Our aim was to examine and progress the clients' pathways and experiences. We looked at their journey as an adventure and helped them to create artefacts which they may need on their way such as passports, carrier bags, telescopes, compases and talismans.

This is the second centre for adults with disability that I have worked in. I also have experience in Prosper Fingal in Rush, Co. Dublin. Both of these were excellent experiences which have greatly impacted my teaching ability and skills.
