Peer Teaching

Throughout my degree peer teaching has played a fundamental role in my development as a teacher. Peer teaching was implemented during our placement in primary school, the Special Educational Needs centre placement, our second year secondary school placement & mentoring programme and also in the micro teaching/ peer learning sessions we took part in during the degree. Peer teaching has taught me invaluable teaching skills and prepared me for actual school scenarios where team teaching has become more popular in recent years.

Post Primary Peer Teaching

In the same teaching block as the mentoring programme myself and my peer taught our first lessons in a secondary school. We were placed in St Joseph's Secondary School in Rush. This first taste of teaching through peer teaching was a great introduction to a secondary school. Working alongside a partner helped immensely with the nerves and pre- lesson jitters. We taught a second year group 3D cardboard construction.

Mentoring Programme

The NCAD mentoring programme is conducted by second year education students. The purpose of the project is to show pupils in secondary schools how to approach notebooking and look at the world through the lens of an artist. It is a great oppertunity for secondary school pupils to get an insight to what art college would be like and ask any questions they may have about the process of creating a portfolio of work.

I was placed in St. Joseph's Secondary School in Rush for this placement with another second year student. For this project we explored screen-printing within a school setting and the possibility of digital photo editing.
