Print & Paint Department Collaboration Project

Teaching Practice was not the only peer learning that occurred within my degree. Within my studio practice there was also a number of peer learning experiences laid out for students to participate in. The most noteable being the inter-department project 'Frames of Reference' & the Print Department collaboration project 'Experimental Things'.

For Frames of Reference the Print and Paint departments were joined together and divided into twelve groups. Each group had to follow the same brief and design and create a body of work collaboratively. This was a rewarding and difficult project due to there being so many people in each group with contradicting views. We had two weeks to plan, design and create the body of work. Our group self titled as the Big Mouth Initiative decided to focus our body of work from a political and social point of view. We worked collaboratively daily sharing skills and knowledge to create an exhibition based around the notion of culture and political prosecution which took place in the NCAD elevator.

We created posters and stickers on photoshop, screenprinted the banners & largescale posters, curated the exhibition and filmed the process and reactions. This project brought forward a new way of thinking which directly inpired some of schemes in my final placements of my degree. It promoted social and political awareness as well as giving a voice to those who were afraid to speak about issues addressed.
