Education must begin with the solution of the student-teacher contradiction, by reconciling the poles of the contradiction so that both are simultaneously teachers and students.

Philosophy of Teaching

Education is the key to the future. How we influence the younger generation is going to impact them for the rest of their lives and that of future generations that follow. I strongly believe that as a teacher we learn from each other as well as our pupils. We are constantly learning and it is imperative that we learn alongside one another. Without learning we have nothing.

From my teaching I have learned a great deal from other teachers, my peers and my students. This learning directly benefited my teaching and the skills that I developed this year. Learning is necessary for our growth. Art education is just as vital for our growth as that of other subjects such as history and geography. In order to move forward in in our future it is important to understand the past. Through philosophy and sociology I learned about influential people such as John Dewey and Paulo Freire. Studying people has changed my outlook and through the process of education made me re-evaluate my methods of teaching. Through teaching I have learned a set of valuable skills which I will carry with me throughout my teaching career as well as new skills and information I will learn along the way.

Education excites me. I want to give my pupils that experience of excitement that I didn't have while I was in school. Art is an excellent medium for conveying information not just about the world of art but also a range of information across a wide range of subjects and cultures. It allows pupils to express themselves as well as releasing their emotions and frustrations into something beautiful. Pupils learn practical skills as well as how to work collaboratively and learn from each other through their triumphs and mistakes. There is no other subject with the the same potential as art.
